Why Trick or Vote?

  • The best way on the best day: Halloween is the one day each year we culturally expect a knock on the door and it also always falls just days before the election. You may be too old to trick-or-treat, but you’re never too old to trick-or-vote. Studies show that face-to-face contact is the most effective method to boost voter turnout—increasing participation by as much as 8–12%.
  • Engaging new voices: In 2004, of the 800 volunteers, 227 of them indicated with a checkbox that Trick or Vote was their first political volunteer experience.
  • Making a Real Difference: In the 2006 midterm election, Trick or Vote Oregon drew over 500 volunteers, knocked over 20,000 doors, and dropped 25,000 voter guides. Young voters (18- 30) in targeted areas turned out at a 5% higher rate than voters in similar, non-targeted areas.
  • Nonpartisan contacts increase the likelihood of electoral participation.
  • There’s a kickin’ AfterParty!
