September Update: Bustin’ a move on the Bus.

After a wildly successful legislative session this spring and bringing on our new Executive Director this summer, The Bus Project is steamrollin’ through autumn. Here’s what we’ve been up to lately, and how you can get involved.

The Bus Project’s 2015 PolitiCorps program was a smashing success. 12 young leaders graduated from our prestigious leadership development program this August. They collected 3,100+ signatures for Raise the Wage, Renew Oregon, Oregon Climate and the Welcome Home Coalition, registered 1,118 Oregonians to vote, and made 1,500+ phone calls for campaigns including our Fresh Start Oregon initiative. Seven fellows are back in college finishing their degrees and three have already started jobs working with campaigns across the state.

We’re currently accepting applications for our fall PolitiCorps fellowship. Contact Amy, our Leadership Development Coordinator, for more information.

We’ve packed hearings across the state in support of New Motor Voter. From Redmond to Portland to Pendleton, The Bus Project and our wonderful coalition partners filled the room with passionate support and testimony for our landmark bill to expand voter enfranchisement. The final rule-making hearing for New Motor Voter is in Eugene onSeptember 24; hope to see you there.

It’s coming up! Did you know that President Barack Obama asked the country to celebrate National Voter Registration Day on September 22ndWe’re still looking for volunteers to join us at the high schools, private colleges, and comunity centers across the state joining us in celebrating voter enfrancisement by registering Oregonians to vote. We’ll be joined by a handful of Commissioners, State Representatives, Senators, and dozens of Bus volunteers. Don’t forget to swing by our NVRD AFTERPARTY beginning at 7pm at the Community Cycling Center’s Warehouse at 1805 NE 2nd Avenue. Special thanks to our partners and sponsors including Lagunitas Brewing, Hot Lips Pizza, Voodoo Doughnuts, the Community Cycling Center, the musical talents of New Zoos, and our amazing volunteers helping orchestrate this event. Come join us!

We also found time to join Instagram. Follow us (IG: oregonbusproject) for some photos of rabble-rousin’ and hands-on democracy for the next generation of Oregonians.

It’s a great time to #getonthebus.
